Our history and our future

The original name of the newspaper was the Palestine Advocate that began publication in 1849. The Palestine Press and the Palestine Daily Visitor, both established in 1889, were purchased by W.M. & H.V. Hamilton in 1903. They consolidated the two newspapers to form the Palestine Daily Herald.

In 1966, the family of Wayne Patrick purchased the Daily Herald from brothers Lamar & Lester Hamilton renaming it the Palestine Herald-Press. The paper converted to offset printing in 1873 when they moved to the present location from their office on Ave. A.

The Patrick family maintained the newspapers until 1998 when Birmingham, Alabama based company Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc. (CNHI) purchased the newspaper.
