Atmos Energy crews work to cap a ruptured natural gas line at the intersection of Crockett and Church streets Thursday afternoon after city workers inadvertently punctured the line while making other infrastructure construction in the vicinity. Palestine Fire Department and county emergency officials, including Precinct 2 Constable Doug Lightfoot, responded to help reroute traffic away from the break. Crockett Street was blocked from the light at Crockett and Park Avenue to Reagan Street for about two hours. A few homes in the area were evacuated and Palestine Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Medical Task Force’s ambus was on hand to offer at least five evacuees aid and an air conditioned place to wait for repairs to be made. No injuries were reported.
