Westwood Primary School second-grader Caden Bailey, 8, was presented with honorary awards, fulfilling his dream of being a police officer during a special ceremony Monday. Caden, son of James and Ashley Bailey of Palestine, was made a honorary Palestine Police Department officer. He also was made an honorary sheriff's deputy and junior Texas Ranger and received plaques and badges from several law enforcement agencies including the Texas Department of Public Safety. Caden suffers from a rare neurodegenerative disorder, a terminal illness, called Niemann-Pick Type C Disease, which causes progressive deterioration of the nervous system. Following the ceremony, Caden got to take a ride in a Palestine police car. Caden recently served as the “Head Conductor” on the PPD's Hot Pepper Express Train float in the Hot Pepper Festival Parade.
