Sweet Dreams Winery has added another accolade to its growing list of awards.
The small winery located near Elmwood won a silver medal from the Florida Grape Growers Association’s Florida State Fair 2008 International Wine and Grape Juice Competition.
Their 2007 Blackberry Grape Wine received a silver medal in the competition’s International Division. It was the second time the wine has won an award, the first time coming in an international amateur competition with Winemaker Magazine.
“That’s the Blackberry Grape Wine we won a gold with,” winery owner Mike Pell said Wednesday. “This is the first time the Blackberry Grape has won a professional award.”
According to the Florida Grape Growers Association Web site, there were 1,628 wines entered in the commercial competition, with 44 awarded double gold medals, 154 gold medals, 548 silver medals and 515 bronze.
“We were real pleased,” Pell said.
It’s not the first time Sweet Dreams’ wines have won in professional competitions.
Last year, the winery’s Honey Raspberry Wine received a silver medal at the 2007 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition; the Wild Mustang Grape Red Wine and Blue Moon Blueberry Wine earned bronze medals at the 2007 Lone Star International Wine Competition; and the Blue Moon Blueberry also received a bronze medal at the 2007 Indy Wine Competition at the Indiana State Fair.
“So far we have won at least one award in every competition we’ve entered,” Pell said.
The winery is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. It is located at 2549 ACR 441. From Palestine, take FM 315 north past FM 321, turn right on ACR 444, and turn right on ACR 441. The winery is about one-quarter mile down on the left.
