Oakwood closing for rest of week due to flu

By CHERIL VERNON

OAKWOOD — The flu bug has hit Oakwood Independent School District hard this week — prompting the school district to close for the rest of the week.

“We have a high number out with cases of influenza virus and a few of the H1N1 virus and it has hit us hard,” Oakwood ISD Superintendent Richard Scoggin said. “Monday, we had about 18 percent out, today (Tuesday) it got worse — we had one-fourth of our students out.”

The school will be closed today through Friday. Monday is a student holiday and a workday for teachers. Students will return to class on Tuesday.

“We will use the time to do a thorough and detailed cleaning of the school and hopefully when the students return the flu will have run its course,” Scoggin said.
