Palestine girls win regional cross country meet

The Palestine girls cross country team is heading to state.
The Ladycats won the Class 3A-Region III meet Saturday morning at North Harris College in Humble. Palestine won with 104 points and Lufkin Hudson finished second with 110 points.
Palestine advances to the Class 3A state cross country meet, which will run at 10:50 a.m. Saturday at Settler’s Park in Round Rock.
At the regional meet, Kailea Hull led the way for Palestine with a sixth place finish and a time of 12-minutes, 8.7 seconds. Sara Bates was 14th (12:29), Terenika Farris was 18th (12:37.8), Tania Guitz was 21st (12:43.4), Jessica Garcia was 46th (13:30.3), Nadia Unanzor was 47th (13:30.4) and Katie Webb was 65th (13:52.2).
The Palestine boys finished seventh at the regional meet with a total of 207 points.
Santos Chavez was the top Palestine finisher, taking 33rd (17:58.2). Denis Quincin was 38th (18.09) and Wilfredo Martinez (18:19.3), Zachary Anthony (18:19.7) and Felipe Gutierrez (18:20.2) were 48th through 50th. Timmy Klauser was 75th (19:13.1) and Alexander Meyers was 89th (19:30.9).
Also in the Class 3A-Region III boys race, Westwood’s John Almaraz took 51st place (18:22.1).
In the Class 2A-Region III meet Saturday in Humble, the Elkhart girls squad took eighth place with 239 points.
Amanda Ham led Elkhart with a 12th-place finish (13:03.8). Hope Upchurch was 39th (14:09), Elise Davis was 68th (14:44), Tiffany Claborn was 69th (14:44.3), Harley Brim was 76th (15:00.5), Madelon Hays was 98th (16:00.2) and Tracey Clewis was 102nd (16:13.7).
In the boys’ race, Elkhart’s Seth Lusk was 29th (18:50.1) and Bryant Angton was 46th (19:34.7).
