PRMC bomb call deemed false alarm

PALESTINE — A suspicious mechanical item left on top of a newspaper rack at Palestine Regional Medical Center caused some excitement Friday evening for law enforcement officials.

According to reports from Palestine Police Department Sgt. James Muniz, dispatch received a call between 6:30 and 7 p.m. for what an onlooker thought could be a “bomb.”

“It was not a bomb. It was a false alarm,” Muniz said. “Someone saw something mechanical with wires sticking out all over it and called us. It turned out to be the internal mechanism of the coin-operated newspaper rack.”

The Palestine Police Department, Anderson County Sheriff Office and the Palestine Fire Department responded to the scene.
