ELKHART — Law enforcement officials in Anderson County are currently investigating a possible homicide in Elkhart.

According to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor, his department is looking into the death of a woman in Elkhart as a “possible homicide.” The sheriff offered little information because the family of the deceased woman had not been notified.

Taylor said someone is in custody following the incident this morning.

All Elkhart school campuses were closed briefly this morning as a precaution as the sheriff's office investigated this incident which took place near the schools.

A person in the superintendent's office at Elkhart said the lock down was brief and the campuses were open as of mid-morning.

“The lockdown didn't have anything to do with the schools. It was a situation with the sheriff's office down the road,” the person said. “All Elkhart campuses were on full lock down just as a precaution.”
