An Anderson County woman remained in jail Friday after being arrested for aggravated sexual assault of a child.
According to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor, 21-year-old Amanda Singletary was arrested on Friday morning for having an inappropriate relationship with a young boy.
“We were made aware of the situation on May 23,” Taylor said. “And through our investigation, discovered that she was having sexual relationship with a 13-year-old boy.
“This has been going on for a year or more, so the victim could have been 11 years old when this began occurring.”
Taylor reported that they believe the suspect and the victim met at a local church, where Singletary befriended the boy and knew his guardians.
“We have taken all the necessary steps in the investigation, but it is still ongoing,” Taylor said.
The sheriff also reported that while cases such as these — with a female abuser — are not very common, they do happen.
“A female abuser can do just as much damage to a young boy as a male abuser can do to a young girl,” he said. “The boy is still a victim.
“A sad thing about this is that something similar probably happened to the abuser,” he added. “It is an endless, vicious cycle, but it cannot be tolerated.”
As of Friday, no bond had been set for Singletary.
