PALESTINE — Palestine Police Department officials have released the name of the victim in an on-going homicide investigation.
Eighty-one-year-old John Jerome Ferles of Palestine, was found dead at his residence in the 100 block of Longhorn Drive on Monday.
"Based on the evidence at the scene it is believed that Mr. Ferles’ death was due to homicidal violence," PPD Public Information Officer Lt. James Muniz stated in a release to the Herald Press on Tuesday. "The case is being investigated as a homicide by the Palestine Police Department. We're speaking with family members to try to find out more about Mr. Ferles and why this may have happened."
The Palestine PD is being assisted in the homicide investigation by members of the Texas Rangers.
Police record stated on Monday officers were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Longhorn Drive concerning the welfare of a resident there. Police arrived to found the back door to the residence unsecure. Upon entering the residence, officers found him deceased inside the residence.
During the initial stages of the investigation police spoke with the victim’s neighbors and learned Ferles had not been seen in several days. It was also learned his car, a gold colored Chevy Impala, was missing from the residence.
"Police have learned that the vehicle belonging to the victim has been recovered and is being stored at a wrecker facility in East Texas," Muniz stated. "Palestine police will be traveling to the area to view the vehicle and try and identify any possible evidence in the case."
