MIDDLE SCHOOL
• Student of the Day — The following students were selected as the ”Student of the Day” for the week of Jan. 19:
Kaitlyn Green; Jacob Henry; Meghan Coates and Tommy Gilpin
• Box Tops — Cayuga Middle School is collecting BOX TOPS for Education. Please send box tops to Mrs. Griffey. Grades are competing. The winning class will receive a pizza party at the end of 2nd semester. The 7th graders won the competiton for first semester!
• Gold Medalist of the Week — The “Gold Medalist” for this week is sixth grader, Rebecca Slate. She is the daughter of Bonita and Ricky Slate of Bradford. Rebecca participates in UIL, Model UN, and Little Dribblers. She also enjoys riding four-wheelers, hunting, fishing, and hanging out with friends and family. Rebecca enjoys CMS because it is a really great school. Congratulations to Rebecca!
• CMS Cheerleader Try-outs — Students interested in trying out for JV or MS Cheerleader, please see Ashley Radford to sign-up. Sign-ups are through Friday.

MIDDLE SCHOOL
• Terrific Kids – Congratulations to the following students for being Cayuga Elementary Terrific Kids for the month of December: Dani Mingus, Daisy Folsom, Megan Kelley, Chanellor Francis, Kellar Helms, Courtney January, Mack Leven, Isabell Basurto, Destiny Mitchell, Chase Glenn, Kaycee Marrou, Caroline Poff, Brittni Rayford, Mary Wilson, Isaiah Majette, Dalton Wilkins and Savannah Pharis. They will be treated to a special lunch on Monday.
• Most Improved – Congratulations to the following students for being Cayuga Elementary Most Improved students for the third six weeks of school: Caden Mullican, MaKenzie Myers, Kayty Slaysman, Paris Utley, Aaron Humphrey, Chad Brown low, Aaron Deckard, Christina Redding, Spencer Moore, Ricardo Aguinaga, Katlin Wallace, Rocky Lane, Eric Freshour, Tamber Gilpin and Abi Sims.
• Academic Pep Rally – Cayuga Elementary held their Academic Pep Rally on Friday January 9th hosted by the Yellow Team with the a basketball theme. Games included students rolling a basketball across the gym and back, dribbling a basketball across the gym and back, bouncing a basketball across the gym to a fellow team member and the student favorite – Tug of War. Trophies were awarded to the following teams in the following categories: Most Improved – Green Team; Best Behavior – Yellow Team, Best Grades – Blue Team; Best Spirit – Orange Team and Best Attendance – Red Team.
• Accelerated Reader Field Trip – On Jan. 12, kindergarteners and 1st –5th graders who made their AR goal were treated to a skating party at the skating rink in Athens. Congratulations to those students for making their AR goal!
• Kindergarten- Kindergarteners have been busy learning their “heart words” and shapes. Mrs. Downe’s class learned all about the letters “J” and “K” and Mrs. Jenkins’ and Mrs. Winkel’s learned all about the letter “S.” They did many activities with snow including making instant snow and a snowman out of shaving cream.   They also wore silly socks to school.   The children are looking forward to a fun six weeks including making paper airplanes, pajama day, eating pancakes and having a pillow fight. They are very excited to celebrate the 100th day of school on Friday. They are collecting money for a special lunch on the 100th day of school. Kindergarteners wrote a letter to Zero the Hero and invited him to march in the 100th day of school parade.
• First Grade – First graders have also been busy since coming back from the Christmas holidays. They have learned about and made pictures of Martin Luther King. They have proudly displayed them outside of their classrooms. They have also been learning about tally graphs and bar graphs. First graders are busy learning about describing words, which is coming in handy while learning about penguins. Students have discovered there are several different kinds of penguins and are finding out about their habitats. They have discovered that the daddy penguin takes care of the baby penguins. They are also reading the book “Mr. Popper’s Penguins”.
• Upcoming Events: Monday, Terrific Kid Lunch; Friday, 100th Day of School Celebration and Parade; Feb. 13, end of the fourth six weeks.
