HIGH SCHOOL

— November Student of the Month — Emily McNeill was chosen student of the month for November. She is the daughter of Joel & Linda McNeill. Emily has been elected class secretary, Student Council secretary and Interact secretary. She has been a member of NHS for three years and held an elected office each year. She is a member of FCA, Annual Staff, and One Act Play. She has received All-Star Cast for 2 years. She is also Annual Staff editor. She has been a varsity cheerleader for four years. Emily is planning to attend college after she graduates from high school.

— October Student of the Month — Brandon Alexander was chosen student of the month for October. He is the son of Audrey and Warren Alexander. Brandon participates in varsity football. He was chosen as captain of the football team. He is very involved in FFA. He is chapter president, district officer (vice president), Area VIII FFA 1st Vice President. He has received the following FFA awards: star greenhand, star chapter farmer, and Lone Star degree. He also participates in 4-H where he has held the offices of Anderson County 4-H County Council president and 4-H club president. He plans to attend an ag-based college and major in Ag Business.



— September Student of the Month — Katy Sharp was chosen student of the month for September. She is daughter of Don and Susan Sharp. Katy has been a member of the volleyball team for four years as well as a varsity cheerleader for four years. She has been a member of NHS and Student Council for three years. She has participated in Model UN for four years. She has been elected class president (junior & senior year), class secretary (freshman year), NHS secretary (one year), class treasurer (sophomore year) and Homecoming Queen (junior year). She is a member of the Interact Club and FCA. She has participated in One Act Play. Katy plans to attend Stephen F. Austin University in the fall.



MIDDLE SCHOOL

— Student of the Day — The following students were selected as the ”Student of the Day” for the week of Feb. 2: Ke'Shawn Jackson; Tatum Ingram; David Morse; Amanda Holden and Cody Branum

— Box Tops — Cayuga Middle School is collecting BOX TOPS for Education. Please send box tops to Mrs. Griffey. Grades are competing. The winning class will receive a pizza party at the end of 2nd semester. The 7th graders won the competition for 1st semester!

— Gold Medalist of the Week — “Gold Medalist” for this week is 6th grader, Darius Bell. He is the son Lorrie Bell of Tennessee Colony. Darius enjoys spending time with family on vacations, playing video games with his brother, and listening to music. He enjoys CMS because he gets to visit with friends.

— Upcoming Events — End of 4th Six Weeks is Friday. Report cards will be handed out on Feb. 18. A student holiday will be on Feb. 16.



ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

— Fourth Grade “ Mrs. Hamil’s classes have been busy learning about Earth science. They have been studying the effects of weathering and erosion. They have also been learning about rocks. Students have been encouraged to bring rocks to share with their classmates. This has given them the opportunity to see first hand the various different kinds of rocks and how weathering has affected them. For Ms. Henry, students read a humorous fiction story titled “Ali Baba Hunts For A Bear”.

They have also been working on predictions, character, facts and non-facts in their stories. In social studies, they have finished their unit on Europeans coming to America. Fourth graders have started their unit on Texas “From Revolution to Statehood”. In health for Ms. Street, students learned about the food pyramid. In math, they have reviewed multiplication and word problems. They have started two digit multiplied by two digit numbers.



— Fifth Grade “ Fifth graders enjoyed success with their Wax Museum. They want to thank all the parents for all the hard work they did to help make this a success and to all the other elementary teachers for their support. Kindergarten through fourth graders also enjoyed the various people portrayed in the wax museum. In social studies, students have been reading political cartoons. Each student brought a political cartoon out of any newspaper and to the best of their ability made an interpretation as to what or whom the cartoon was about. They have also studied about the Civil Rights movement.

Students have also been given their state report assignments, state mail and outline of their state on poster board. They will label the state capital and draw any rivers or mountains. To complete their report they will add a brief history of their state, their major economic industry and information about any famous people from their state. In reading, they have finished the book “Ben Franklin”.

They have learned about author’s purpose and attitude as well as objectives. In science, fifth graders ended their Earth unit learning about the Grand Canyon and how weathering and erosion had helped to shape the Grand Canyon.

They have started their unit on matter. They will study the different states of matter and how it changes due to evaporation, condensation and freezing. Students will do several activities to demonstrate the different states of matter.
