ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
• PPCD and Pre-Kindergarten — Mrs. Richards and Mrs. Jenkins classes have been learning the rules and making new friends. They’ve been working hard on learning their colors and concentrating on recognizing their names and the beginning letter and sound of their name. Friday’s pep rally was very exciting for these two classes; they ran into the pep rally with the football players. GO PPCD and pre-kindergarten!
• Kindergarten — Mrs. Winkel’s class has been reviewing colors. Students were encouraged to wear the color of the day to school. They also will be studying a different letter each week. Show and tell will be on Tuesday’s for the letter of the week. They also made "All About Me" posters and displayed them for open house. Mrs. Downe’s class also made and displayed their "All About Me" posters. They have also been reviewing colors and learning shapes like circles, rectangles, squares, and triangles. They studied the letter "A" and had show and tell on Tuesday for the letter "A".
• First Grade — First graders have been practicing letters and sounds. They’ve also been working hard on their handwriting. They started the "100 Book Club.” Students who read 100 books will be given an exciting prize (to be determined at a later date). Mrs. Walls’ class had pocket day on Thursday. Each Thursday, students count to see how many pockets they have. They had 70 pockets on Thursday. Mrs. Kanetzky’s students made books about themselves and their families.
They’ve been learning about where we live and all about families. In Mrs. Taylor’s class, they’ve also been learning about families. After reading "The Kissing Hand,” students made a handprint with a poem to display for open house.
• Upcoming Events — Wednesday, progress reports; Oct. 5, end of first six weeks.
• Open House — We had a fantastic turn out for Open House this past Monday. We would like to thank our parents for coming out to see what your child has been doing for the past couple of weeks at school. We also appreciate those that were able to stay for "Meet the Wildcats" and the Homecoming Pep Rally. With your continued support, we will have another wonderful year at Cayuga Elementary.
