Christian Heritage Academy News for 2-8-09
The Palestine Herald
— Second Grade — To stimulate scientific thinking, last Friday each child brought a "Curiosity Caboodle", a bag of 20 items they thought were interesting. And what interesting things we saw... from a two-dollar bill to a pelt from an elk!
In math related news, Mrs. Weber introduced multiplication to her class.
— Library News — Come visit our Scholastic Book fair. It will be open Feb 6 - 12, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Remember, books make great gifts! Please contact Denise May if you are interested in volunteering during the fair.
— Kindergarten — Mrs. Scroggins's class has been learning about our planet, Earth, as well as the other planets in our solar system.
To expand our learning, each child chose a planet to study and recorded one fact to share with our school during Friday morning assembly.
To conclude our study, we traveled to the Planetarium in Tyler. We enjoyed this educational adventure and look forward to our next unit of study, "Children Around the World".
— Gift of Time (young 6 year olds) — On Friday, we joined the Kindergartners on their trip to the Planetarium. We have been looking at the moon every four nights, and made a chart illustrating the eight phases it goes through each month.
We are also learning about life in the frozen parts of the Earth — the Arctic and Antarctica. Mrs. Curbo taught us about the animals God created to be able to live there...like penguins, polar bears, seals, walruses, foxes, and owls, and which ones hibernate during the winter months.
We built an igloo out of sugarwater, ice blocks, and insta-snow (a polymer that expands 300 times when added to water).
