Couple’s son earns praise as SA attorney

Mark Miller was one of eight attorneys from the Jackson Walker law firm in San Antonio to be selected as one of the city’s “Best Lawyers” in the August 2008 issue of “Scene in SA Monthly.”

Miller, the son of Bob and Rosemary Miller of Palestine, is chair of the Intellectual Property section of Jackson Walker. He received his B.A. degree in Chemistry from Austin College and his J.D. degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio where he was associate editor of St. Mary’s Law Journal.

Attorneys included in the rankings were nominated by their peers in a citywide survey of lawyers who have practiced in San Antonio for at least five years.



School supply giveaway Sunday

The Congo Truck Club is sponsoring “free back to school supplies” for all students in grades kindergarten through fifth grades in need of supplies. The supplies will be issued from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Reagan Park.

Supplies will be distributed in accordance with the school supply list, and will be given on a first come basis until all supplies are gone.



Hollie Family Reunion held

“Love, Love and More Love” was the theme for the Hollie Family Reunion held July 5-6 at the Masonic Hall in Palestine. Church services were held at Smith Chapel of God In Christ.

Families of the deceased included siblings Lenera Gaston, Leila Henderson, Marvinell Hollie.

Officers of the reunion are: president Debra Deckard; secretary Alene Leveston; activity directors Wanda Reeves and Tracie Miller; and food directors Robbie Gaston and Alice Howard.



Local celebrates birthday

Congratulations to local resident David Jones, who celebrated his 84th birthday during a party Thursday at Ryan’s Steakhouse in Palestine.

According to friends, Jones was responsible for establishing the DAV chapter here in Palestine. He is a World War II Navy aviation veteran.
