PALESTINE —
Besides its regular monthly low-cost food packages, Angel Food Ministries is offering a special Thanksgiving holiday box that can be pre-ordered for the holidays.
The Thanksgiving box, which costs $36 and is available for pre-order now through Oct. 28, will include the following items: 7 lb. (average) Perdue roaster, 2.5 lb. boneless netted ham, 2 lb. frozen diced sweet potatoes, 3.5 lb. (average) frozen corn cobblets (12), 2 lb. frozen green beans, 1 lb. frozen cranberries, 17 oz. ready-to-cook cornbread dressing, 8 count heat and serve larger dinner rolls, 4.5 oz. brown gravy mix, one dessert item (pie or cake) and one recipe sheet.
This special Thanksgiving holiday box will be shipped during the November distribution period.
Angel Food Ministries provides fresh, brand name food for a fraction of the retail price, according to director Harold Pettit. By purchasing food in bulk, directly from some of the top suppliers in the country, food is discounted by up to 50 percent of retail.
A standard medium-sized box of food may be purchased for $31 and contains food staples from every food group, including chicken or beef, milk, eggs, vegetables and fruit. Each regular box of food feeds a family of four for about a week, or a single person for almost a month, according to Pettit.
The menu selections vary monthly and consist of both fresh and frozen items.
The October regular box for $31 includes: 1.5 New York Strip steaks (3x8 oz.), 1 lb. steak fajita strips, 2 lb. chicken stir fry skillet meal, 1 lb. lean ground beef, 1.5 breaded white chicken tenders, 1 lb. average center cut ham steaks (hickory smoked), 1 lb. bake or fry fish sticks (32 count), 1 lb. pasta, 25 oz. marinara sauce, 1 lb. frozen baby lima beans, 1 lb. frozen mixed vegetables, 2 lb. bag fresh apples (8 to 10 count), 10 count flour tortilla wraps, 32 oz. 2 percent shelf stable milk, dozen eggs and dessert.
Angel Food Ministries is no longer requiring the purchase of the monthly food box in order to buy other selected food packages.
Other boxes available include the senior box for $28 which has 10 complete meals and a dessert; the Allergen-free box for $25; a 7 lb. assorted meat grill box for $23; a 4.5 lb. assorted steak combo box for $22; a 10 lb. breaded chicken combo box for $20; and a fresh fruit and vegetable box for $22.
