EDITORIAL: Byron Cook clear choice for state representative

Palestine Herald-Press

PALESTINE — If the citizens of Anderson County ever needed continuing conservative representation in Austin, the time is most assuredly now. We must re-elect Byron Cook as state representative.

Byron is a family man, businessman, rancher and conservative Republican legislator. He is endorsed by many respected groups including the NRA, Texas Farm Bureau, Texas Alliance for Life and Texas Association of Business.

These endorsements from clearly conservative organizations speak volumes to Cook’s voting record since his 2003 election to the Texas House of Representatives.

And, while these endorsements are certainly important, the endorsement of Palestine’s native son, Todd Staples, Texas Commissioner of Agriculture, tells us Byron is the clear choice for our state representative.

“Byron Cook is one of the hardest working and most effective Republicans in the Texas legislature,” Staples wrote in his official endorsement of Cook. “He is a steadfast conservative who gets results for rural Texas and I am proud to support and recommend Byron to others.”

Cook has worked hard to balance the state budget, strengthen landowner rights, restore local control to schools, pass photo voter ID laws, strengthen border security, protect state sovereignty and pass pro-life reforms.

For these reasons we encourage voters of Anderson County to vote for Byron Cook for Texas State Representative District 8 in Tuesday’s primary election.
