ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
• Student of the Month — February Student of the Month is Cheyenne Vaughn. She is the daughter of Troy and Sandra Vaughn and older sister to Caleb, her brother, and Shawnee, her sister. When she grows up, she wants to be a teacher, perhaps at the college level. Cheyenne is a straight A student in Mrs. Johnson's third grade. Her favorite subject is social studies where she loves to learn about inventions. Cheyenne loves the outdoors, riding her horse, Patches, and playing in her tree house. Her major complaint is the ants that like to play in her tree house, too. Her favorite vacation was to Minnesota where she went shopping! The trip was memorable because while she was there, she had her ears pierced. Mrs. Johnson says she is very dependable and a shining star in her class.
• Chinese New Year — Ms. Dehart's pre-kindergarten class feasted on a variety of Chinese foods while attempting to use chopsticks. Many of these students tasted Chinese food for the very first time in their lives. After this experience, many realized this type of food is one they may also enjoy in the future. Learning about Chinese New Year was a wonderful learning experience for each student.
• G/T Nominations — Elkhart Elementary School is seeking nominations for its Discovery Program, the Gifted/Talented program. This program offers enrichment in the subjects of language arts and mathematics.
The Discovery Program places emphasis on creative and divergent thinking skills, critical thinking skills, communication skills, research skills, independent study skills and affective development. Parents, guardians, teachers and community members are given the opportunity to nominate students for the Discovery Program at the Elementary School. At this time, nominations for students in grades 1-5 are being accepted. Anyone interested in nominating an Elkhart Elementary student to be screened, tested, and considered for this program needs to contact the counselor Sarah Johnson at 764-2979.
Nominations will be accepted through March 30.
