Palestine Mayor Bob Herrington presents Palestine firefighter and Spc. Eric Gartman with a certificate proclaiming July 13, 2009 as “Eric Gartman Day” in the city during Monday’s city council meeting. Gartman returned to the Palestine Fire Department at the end of June after completing a tour of duty in Iraq as a helicopter mechanic.
