H.C. Swanson deeded the tract of land for the purpose of a church and school on May 26, 1904. In 1914, the old building was torn down and a new school was built, with a new church building being erected soon after.
According to the church history, the church was attended by many denominations and was used as a center for worship and social activities for the community.
In 1942, the church affiliated with the Texas Methodist Conference. In 1949, a building to be used as a parsonage was moved to the tract. In the early 1950’s the Swanson Hill School District consolidated with Palestine, and the school building was moved. At that time the church building was moved to its present site in the center of the land. Later, in the 1950’s a building was added on for Sunday school rooms and a fellowship hall. The building also served as a community center and a voting site.
In the 1970’s a steeple with belfry and two rooms were completed. Also additions and remodeling projects have continued for the parsonage.
In June of 1995, the church reorganized and is now Swanson Hill Community Church, a traditional, conservative, Bible-based church.
