Claire Elizabeth Nichols and Lt.Nicolas Andre Gruning were married at 2 p.m. May 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Palestine. The celebrant was Deacon Pat Venglar.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Nichols of Lake Jackson and the granddaughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Charles E. Nichols and Mrs. Charles C. Davis Jr. and the late Mr. Charles C. Davis Jr. of Palestine.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gruning of San Marcos and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Bartel of Mason City, Iowa and the late Mr. and Mrs. Rolf R. Gruning of Gulfport, Miss.
The bride was given in marriage by her father.
Maid of honor was sister of the bride, Rachel Nichols. Bridesmaids were Heather Dennis, Amanda Dover, Alexandria Hluza, Emily Lamb, Rachel Perello and Brittani Richter.
Best man was Ethan Lord. Groomsmen were Lt. Travis Schecher, Lt. Kyle Whalen, Lt. Mike Fenton, Reece McCrea, Richard Soule, Austin Nichols, and Jerry Messmer.
Flower girl was Caelyn Moore and ring bearer was Corbin Nichols, nephew of the bride.
Violinist was Camille Brady and violist was George Pappas of San Marcos.
A dinner and dance followed the ceremony at the Harvey Woman's Club. On the eve of the wedding, the groom's parents hosted a rehearsal dinner with a European travel theme at The Ranch House in Palestine.
The bride will graduate from Texas A&M University in College Station in August with a degree in animal science and a minor in business.
The groom graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station, in 2011 with a degree in English and membership in Phi Beta Kappa. He is currently serving in the U.S. Army Infantry in Vilseck, Germany. The couple will honeymoon in St. Malo, France and will be stationed in Vilseck, Germany.
