A 23-year-old Oakwood man was arrested Friday after allegedly breaking into an Elkhart business.
Robert Wayne Mars, 23, of Oakwood was charged with burglary of a building around noon Friday after allegedly burglarizing the Elkhart Co-Op, according to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor.
The sheriff said his agency was contacted around 8:30 a.m. Friday after employees of the Elkhart Co-Op, located off of Texas 294 in Elkhart, discovered the building had been burglarized.
"They discovered a window busted out in the break room area of the building," Taylor said. "They have video."
Upon gaining entry into the building, Taylor said the video showed a subject immediately going to the location of the business' cash drawer. After unsuccessfully attempting to access the drawer, the subject left the building, the sheriff added.
Upon reviewing the video, sheriff's deputy John Wright and Sgt. Brian Chason recognized the subject who had broken into the building as Mars.
The suspect was later contacted and reported to the sheriff's office around noon Friday, according to the sheriff.
"He came to the sheriff's office, was interviewed and did give a confession that he did break into the building and was trying to take money," Taylor said. "He indicated he was having some financial difficulties."
Records showed Mars was released from the Anderson County Jail Saturday after posting a $10,000 bond set by Anderson County Justice of the Peace James Todd.
"That just proves again why businesses should have video," Taylor said.
