Residents ready to clean up city
The Palestine Herald
PALESTINE —
Palestine residents planning to take part in Saturday’s annual spring citywide cleanup day are reminded to bring proof of residency with them as they haul items to the city’s compost site.
The City of Palestine’s composting facility, located on U.S. 287/Texas 19 between U.S. 79 and Loop 256, will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to allow city residents to dispose of large and bulky items from their properties.
Since the annual event is not intended for commercial businesses, contractors or those who live outside of Palestine, those wishing to participate are required to provide proof of address with a current water bill or driver’s license. Those unable to provide proof of city residence will not be allowed to dump.
In addition, elderly and disabled residents who contacted the Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce to request curbside pickup are reminded to have their items to be disposed of ready for pickup at the curb by 8 a.m. Saturday.
Examples of items that will be accepted this year are limbs, brush, leaves, furniture, lumber, shingles, household waste, most types of metal, refrigerators, washers, dryers, hot water heaters, televisions, computers, microwaves, batteries, car rims, and car and light truck tires which have been separated from the rim.
Examples of items which cannot be accepted are household chemicals, cleaning solutions, herbicides, pesticides, any type of acid, any type of automotive fluids, asbestos and paint.
Traditionally, the city holds its spring cleanup day on the Saturday before the first weekend of the Dogwood Trails Festival and schedules its fall cleanup day on the Saturday before the Fall/Oktoberfest.
