Annual Dogwood Trails Car Show offers something for all

By PAUL STONE
The Palestine Herald

PALESTINE Event organizers say there will be something for everyone at the Dogwood Trails Car Show Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church on Avenue A.

This weekend’s edition represents the 23rd annual show, and all types of cars — from pre1932-to-muscle cars-to-two classes of Ford Mustangs — will be on display, according to Jeri Whitten of Cars of Palestine.

The show is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m.-to-3 p.m.

Spectator tickets are $3 per person.

“We have 17 classes,” Whitten explained, “and we have two awards in each class.”

Some other classes of cars in the competition include: restored; muscle cars; 1965 through ‘73; 1974 and up; street rods; trucks; sports cars; and 2000 and up, Whitten stated.

Traditionally, car enthusiasts from throughout the state show up to display their vehicles, Whitten said. Thus far, members of a Dallas-area car club have entered a total of almost two dozen Ford Mustangs, she added.

“We just have a wonderful selection of cars that show up,” Whitten said. “We have several clubs that show up.”

A Best of Show Award will be given, in addition to Mayor’s Choice; Chief of Police Choice; the Sheriff’s Choice; and the People’s Choice awards.

There will be door prizes and games, while a local disc jockey will play music at the show throughout the day, Whitten added.

“It’s a fun time,” Whitten said. “Everybody says we’re the best show there is.”
