A 27-year-old former Anderson County jailer has been indicted by an Anderson County grand jury on two counts of prohibited substance in a correctional facility, according to records released by the Anderson County district clerk’s office.
Spencer Bryan, 27, of Palestine was indicted on the charge by the grand jury on April 15, according to records released late last week.
The third-degree felony is punishable by two to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and a fine not to exceed $10,000.
Authorities have said that Bryan knowingly permitted an inside trusty of the jail to bring two bags of Bugler smoking tobacco into the jail.
Bryan, who was terminated from his post around the time of the allegation, had worked as a jailer at the Anderson County Jail for approximately six months, according to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor.
