Grand jury indicts man on multiple charges

The Palestine Herald

PALESTINE A 60-year-old Palestine man who allegedly threatened to kill his family and then scuffled with officers this past fall has been indicted on multiple charges by an Anderson County grand jury.

Michael Joe Morman, 60, of Palestine was indicted by the grand jury last week on two charges of unlawful restraint and single charges of endangering a child and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor has said representatives of his agency responded to a residence at 121 CR 4257 shortly after 9 p.m. on Nov. 15, 2007 after receiving a call that Morman had threatened to kill members of his family and himself.

Morman, who was reportedly intoxicated, and his wife had been in an argument relating to the couple’s 5-year-old daughter, authorities have said.

“The mom and daughter wanted to leave and he wouldn’t let them leave,” Taylor told the Herald-Press at the time. “He started waving this .32 (caliber) automatic pistol around and he dropped it several times (according to the woman’s statement).”

Officers had to ultimately use pepper spray to contain Morman and place him under arrest, according to the sheriff.
