Local band Whiskey Myers to perform in Palestine Saturday

Whiskey Myers will be playing in Jacksonville and Palestine this weekend.

The five-man band will take the stage at the Iron Horse Rodeo in Jacksonville at 8 p.m. Friday and at the Iron Horse Sports Bar in Palestine at 9 p.m. Saturday.

Band members, who all hail from Palestine and Neches, include Cody Cannon, lead vocals and acoustic guitar; Cody Tate, lead guitar, vocals and rhythm guitar; John Jeffers, rhythm guitar, vocals and lead guitar; Gary Brown, bass; and Jeff Hogg, drums.

The band was shaped by 70s Southern rock influences Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band and Led Zeppelin, as well as modern Texas country by Reckless Kelly, Randy Rogers and Cross Canadian Ragweed.

Whiskey Myers recently released its second CD, “Road of Life.” Songs from the CD can be found on the group’s MySpace Web page at www.myspace.com/myerswhiskey.

The group has signed with an agent and is touring around the state. Whiskey Myers has other East Texas dates scheduled, including May 23, Legends Steakhouse in Madisonville; June 21, Bootlegger’s in Tyler; June 28, Legends Steakhouse, Madisonville; July 18, Neon Country, Jacksonville; Aug. 15, Bootlegger’s 155 with the Josh Abbott Band, Tyler; and Sept. 13, Festival on the Square, Tyler.
