Juneteenth pageant slated
The Negro Historical Preservation Society is seeking applicants for the 3rd Annual Juneteenth Pageant.
Participant sign-ups will start at 5 p.m. Monday and continue through 5 p.m. May 31 at Angel of Mercy Center, 1812 E. Murchison St. in Palestine.
Participants are needed in the following categories: Little Miss and Little Mr. applicants, ages 3-6; Junior Miss and Junior Mr. applicants, ages 7-12; and Miss and Mr. Juneteenth applicants, ages 13-17.

PHS Alumni group to meet
The Palestine High School Alumni Association will hold a meeting at 1 p.m. today at the Museum for East Texas Culture.
Meeting set in Elkhart
All residents of Elkhart ISD are invited to attend a planning meeting for the Federal Title programs for the 2008-09 school year at 5 p.m. Monday in Room 102 of the Middle School.
This meeting will provide patrons with information about the Title programs offered in the district, as well as providing them the opportunity to give input into plans for the coming year. Agenda items will include instructional programs and strategies, student assistance, assessment, evaluation, professional development, parental involvement, and budgeting of federal funds.
Attendees will be surveyed regarding these issues and ideas will be solicited.

WHS Powder Puff game set
The girls will face off in a game of football at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the annual Westwood High School Powder Puff Football game.
After weeks of practice, the junior girls will play the senior girls under the coaching of 2007 Panther football players with WHS coaches officiating. The game is a fund-raiser for the high school yearbook and promises to be an evening of family fun.
Tickets are $2 and will be available at the gate on game night.
