Shavuot festival planned June 14

Hatikva Yisrael (The Hope of Israel) Messianic Congregation will host their second annual community Shavuot (Pentecost) festival. Shavuot is one of God’s seven yearly Feasts and the second of the three pilgrimage Feasts. The Hebrew word Shavuot means “weeks.” The date of Shavuot is directly linked to that of Passover occurring one day after the seventh weekly Sabbath following Passover and, therefore, always on Sunday. Since Shavuot occurs fifty days after Passover, it also is referred to as Pentecost meaning "fiftieth.”

Shavuot is the day Moses received Torah on Mt. Sinai and the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles as “tongues of fire” as recounted in the book of Acts. Shavuot is connected to the season of the grain harvest in Israel beginning with the barley harvest at Passover and ending with the wheat harvest at Shavuot, a foreshadowing of end-time events.

Hatikva Yisrael invites you to join them in celebrating Shavuot at 4:30 p.m. June 14 at Evangelistic Temple in Palestine. Dr. Bob Pyle will present an expository study of Shavuot past and future as it relates to the present-day Believer in Messiah. RSVP at 903-549-2127 or www.hatikvayisrael.org.
