PALESTINE —
Classic country music done Branson, Mo. style will be featured at the Dogwood Jamboree.
The show will start at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Palestine Civic Center. Guests are encouraged to come around 6:15 to 6:30 p.m. for good seats.
Among the many artists on the schedule to perform at the Dogwood Jamboree will be recording artist Jake Penrod, best known for his Hank Williams Sr. impersonation. He performs throughout Texas and other states at various country music venues.
“The Jamboree enables people who love good country music to enjoy an evening of family entertainment without having to travel to Branson, Mo. With gas prices extremely high and people less likely to travel too far from home, we believe the show will offer quality entertainment to those attending,” said show producer and emcee Dan Manuel.
Regular artists including Mandy Seale and Chloe Collins from Palestine, Sissy Perry of Corsicana, Tammy Bostic of Frankston and local recording artist George Lester of Elkhart will perform. Fiddle player Sheila Wheat will be at the Jamboree along with her husband Rick Wheat, as well as steel guitarist Eddie Frankum of Greenville.
Local entertainer and musician Sonny “Bubba” Guess will again be featured on the show, along with comedian Sandy “Flo” Singleterry.
The Dogwood Jamboree Band featuring Billy Lane, Rick Wheat, Sheila Wheat, Joe Hancock, Guess, Luke Lane, Bobby Perry, Mike Kellog and the Dogwood Singers (Tammy Willeford, Ed Commpton, Kathleen Compton and Lorelee Reeder) will provide music and back up for the night.
“The show will feature some of your favorite classic country hits recorded by legendary artists and if you want to enjoy an evening of family entertainment — you will want to make plans to join us for the show,” Manuel said.
Advance tickets for the show are $12 for adults and $6 for children age 5-10. Tickets for children under age 5 are free. Advance tickets can be purchased at the Jamboree office at 903-729-7080, Cavender’s Boot City, Hometown Pharmacy, The Dogwood Diner (in the Palestine Mall), or at the Palestine Visitor Information Center. Advance tickets will be sold through 5 p.m. June 20. After that, tickets will be available at the door for $15 for adults.
“At the end of the show, a special tribute will be given to U.S. service men and women, God and country that you will not want to miss,” Manuel said. “Those who have attended the performances in the past can be assured that this show will bring to Palestine another wonderful performance that they have come to expect from former venues,” Manuel said.
