Truck owner re-indicted for crash related charge

PALESTINE —
The 76-year-old East Texas owner of a truck/trailer involved in a two-vehicle accident two years ago seriously injuring a Palestine teenager has been re-indicted by an Anderson County grand jury on one of the charges against him.
Bennie Joe Adkinson, 76, of White Oak was re-indicted recently on the charge of fictitious or counterfeit insurance document, relating to the June 2006 accident which injured Martha Michelle Gaines, who was then 19, of Palestine.
Authorities have identified Adkinson as the owner of a 1990 GMC truck/trailer operated by Kenneth Lee Woodworth, 48, of White Oak which allegedly ran a red light at the intersection of North Loop 256 and Sterne Avenue shortly after noon on June 11, 2006, striking a 2000 Buick Park Avenue driven by Gaines.
Gaines received multiple injuries, including a head injury and broken ribs and pelvis, and was in a coma for more than two months. She continues to recover from her injuries.
Adkinson also has been previously indicted on the first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Aggravated Sexual Assault
Luis Trejo, 23, Palestine, date of alleged offense, Oct. 6, 2007 (reindictment).
Credit Card Abuse
Chasity Powell, 23, Palestine, date of alleged offense, Aug. 26, 2007.
Tampering with Governmental Records
Jose Luis Garcia-Delgado, 31, Cayuga, date of alleged offense, Oct. 12, 2007.
Burglary of a Building
Michah Dewberry, 30, Athens, date of alleged offense, July 17, 2006 (enhanced to third-degree felony).
