WISD board meeting set
The Westwood Independent School District Board of Trustees will hold their regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the WISD administration board room, located at 4524 West Oak St. in Palestine.
The board will consider for possible approval: the consent agenda (June Tax Report, Second Quarter Investment Report, Region VII Head Start/ISD Cooperative Agreement, minutes from the June 9 meeting and Region VII commitment forms and resolution); renewal of workman’s compensation insurance; student insurance bids; TASB Policy Update 83; the 2008-09 teacher appraisal calendar; employee handbook with changes; student handbook and code of conduct with changes; replacement of high school ISS portable building; and the preliminary 2008-09 budget, rollback election possibility and authorizing the superintendent to publicize information for a public hearing to discuss the proposed budget and tax rate.
Trustees will hear a report on the Leadership TASB program, and in closed session will: consider hiring, accepting resignations and leave requests of professional and nonprofessional personnel; hold a telephone consultation with the school district’s attorney regarding construction contracts and bidding requirements; and consider directives to the superintendent regarding negotiations with General Steel Corporation.
PISD board to meeting Monday
The Palestine Independent School District Board of Trustees will hold their regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the PISD board room, located on the high school campus.
The board will consider for possible approval: school resource officer for PISD; Palestine High School Allotment Money; moving the board room to the Sam Houston Annex and adding a wall in the current board room to make room for file cabinets; number of days a student is out for extra curricular activities; contract with Summit Health and Rehab Service, Inc.; safety audit; credit by exam; foreign exchange student waiver; TASB Policy Update 93; Policy FM (Local); and a resolution for AgriLife Extension.
The Superintendent’s Report will include information on: the resignation of board member Cammie French; additional security cameras at Palestine High School and athletic field; contracting custodial services; discussion of board meeting procedures; TEA report; a July 31 board goal-setting workshop; a Summer Leadership Institute update; the 48th Annual TASA/TASB Convention, Sept. 26-28; and a construction update.
In closed session, trustees will consider a Level III Parent Complaint and personnel matters.
EISD to hold called meeting
The Elkhart Independent School District Board of Trustees will hold a called meeting at 6 p.m. Monday in the Elkhart Middle School library.
The board will meet in closed session to discuss personnel matters. Any decision will be made in open session.
Trustees will then conduct a goal-setting workshop for 2008-09.
Garden of Memories annual meeting set
Elkhart Garden of Memories Cemetery Association will hold its members annual meeting at 2 p.m. Saturday followed by the Board of Directors meeting.
The meeting will be held at First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Elkhart.
Everyone who has someone at the Garden of Memories Cemetery is encouraged to attend. This meeting is when members discuss cemetery business. If you are interested in serving on the Board of Directors, please attend the meeting.
Church to host gospel meetings
The Church of Christ, located at 1612 S. Jackson St. in Palestine will hold a Gospel Meeting event July 13-16 at the church.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
The guest speaker will be Jack Evans Jr. Dinner will be served between the two Sunday services.
Dr. William Hardy is the minister.
Altrusa blood drive set July 24
Altrusa International of Anderson County, a local community service organization, will sponsor a blood drive for Stewart Blood Bank from 4 to 8 p.m. July 24 at the parking lot of the new Meals on Wheels building, 200 N. Church St.

Clewis family reunion slated
The 2008 Clewis Family Reunion will kick off on Friday with a fish fry beginning at 5:30 pm at the Alderbranch/Union Hope Community Center.
Saturday activities will commence at Union Hope Baptist Church in Elkhart with church services beginning at 10:30 a.m. featuring the Rev. D. L. Callier, pastor of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Palestine as the guest speaker for the reunion.
Lunch and other activities, games, etc. will follow the church service at the center.
Meals on Wheels trip planned
Meals on Wheels and the Palestine Senior Activity Center is sponsoring a trip to Branson, Missouri from Oct. 1-5.
The bus will depart from and return to the senior center at 125 Kickapoo St.
Included in the cost of the trip is four nights lodging in Branson, transportation by Deluxe Motorcoach, Chuck’s Travel; eight meals and all entry fees to all attractions including gratuities. The attractions in the tour will include RFD TV Theater; Lost in the 50’s Show with The Platter’s; Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theater Show, The Twelve Irish Tenors Show; Dinner and Show on the Showboat Branson Belle, with a cruise on Lake Tannicomo; Tram Ride and Picnic in Dogwood Canyon Wildlife Park; Tram Ride through Fantastic Caverns; visit to the Titanic Museum and the most fabulous show “Noah” at the Millenium Theater.
If you have never been to Branson, this is the tour to go on. If you have been to Branson before, this tour is totally different than any you have ever been on. The Millenium Theater just opened this past April. This is a fantastic theater that wraps around the audience for a maximum experience. The production uses live animals as well as mechanical animals. The show tells the Biblical story of Noah. The Titanic Museum features complete sets from the Titanic movie, including the grand staircase and ballroom, as well as costumes from the movie.
Fibromyalgia group to meet
The Fibromyalgia Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. July 24.
The support group is designed for people that suffer from chronic illnesses such as Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus.

The Diabetic Support Group meeting for July has been re-scheduled to 10 a.m. July 24. Join Alicia Boles, R.N., with Guardian Angel Home Health Care as she presents information on Diabetes and Eye Care.

Cancer support group to meet
Palestine Resource Center for Independent Living will be hosting a Cancer Support Group meeting at 2 p.m. July 22. The facilitator of the support group, a breast cancer survivor herself, is Suzie Moss, R.N., with Perfect Choice HOMECARE.

PRCIL accepting equipment
Palestine Resource Center for Independent Living is taking donations of medical equipment such as hospital beds, walkers, wheelchairs, commode chairs, crutches, reach extenders, bath benches, and lift chairs.
The PRIDE Program (Palestine Resources Identification for Distribution of Equipment) will take the donated medical equipment and loan to those in need; the purpose is to help people on restricted insurance, Medicare recipients, or those with limited income and without insurance to obtain needed equipment.

MS support group to meet
The Palestine Resource Center for Independent Living, located at 421 Avenue A., Palestine, Texas, will be hosting a Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Support Group meeting at 10 a.m. July 22 at
