Neches woman jailed for possession of crack cocaine

PALESTINE —
A 42-year-old Neches woman remained in the Anderson County Jail Wednesday afternoon in lieu of a $10,000 bond after authorities say they found her in possession of a rock of crack cocaine the previous night.
Jamie Laura Grayson, 42, of Neches was arrested on the charge of possession of a controlled substance less than 1 gram around 9 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 79, east of the Palestine city limits, according to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor.
Grayson’s arrest came shortly after she parked her vehicle on an “abandoned section” of U.S. 79 near the intersection of CR 349, according to the sheriff.
Sheriff’s Cpl. Ronnie Foster was in the process of responding to a call at 8:59 p.m. Tuesday when he observed a 1994 Saturn pulled over on the side of U.S. 79, Taylor said.
“He (Foster) just pulled over to check on it,” Taylor said. “The driver (who was identified as Grayson) was very nervous and he could see open containers of beer inside the vehicle. The beers still appeared to be wet and cold.”
The officer subsequently observed “a short burned piece of pipe containing a copper substance on one end,” in addition to “a small metal container with a lid,” according to Taylor.
Inside the container was “one rock” of a substance which later field tested positive for crack cocaine, the sheriff stated.
“I guess she pulled over to take a sip of beer and smoke the crack pipe,” Taylor theorized.
Grayson, who was the vehicle’s lone occupant, was placed under arrest and transported to the jail where she remained as of late Wednesday afternoon in lieu of a $10,000 bond set by Anderson County Justice of the Peace Carl Davis, according to Taylor.
