Man arrested for aggravated assault

PALESTINE — A 26-year-old Palestine man was arrested early Wednesday morning for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury.

According to a Palestine Police Department report, Shannon Rulon Hall, 26, of Palestine, had become angry during an argument with a 21-year-old female at the Reagan Street apartments shortly after midnight Tuesday. During the argument a 1-year-old child began to cry and Hall yelled at the child to stop crying.

“When the child did not stop crying Shannon Rulon Hall picked up a box and threw it at the child in its crib. The box hit the child on the left side of the head causing a small cut that started bleeding,” the report said.

When the female told Hall she was going to call the police he started hitting her on the head then grabbed her by the throat and started choking her, the report said.

“He then threw her to the floor and hit her in the back,” the report stated. “Hall then grabbed a knife and told her she was not calling the police and she was not leaving. Hall told her if she tried he was going to kill her.”

A friend of Hall’s knocked on the apartment door and when he answered the female was able to pick up the child and flee the apartment to a neighbor’s apartment where 911 was called, the report said.

Officers Terry Tawater and Matthew Bond responded to the disturbance call at the apartment located at 501 E. Reagan St. at 12:37 a.m. Wednesday.

EMS arrived on the scene to check and treat the child and the female.

Hall was transported to the Anderson County Jail.

A jail employee said Hall was released Wednesday.
