PRMC co-workers lose more than 1,000 pounds

PALESTINE — Employees at Palestine Regional Medical Center are accustomed to helping others get healthy.  In January, the hospital made a commitment to help each other get healthy by creating a supportive atmosphere and offering Weight Watchers meetings at work.   Since then, 50 participating employees have lost more than 1,000 pounds!

Lynn Scribner is Director of Marketing & Business Development at the medical center, and since joining the program she has lost over 30 pounds.  Scribner and many of the other Weight Watchers group members agree that having a convenient weight-loss program at work and a built in support group of colleagues have been key contributors to their success.

To continue motivating employees towards their weight-loss goals, the medical center offered to reimburse half the costs for Weight Watchers At Work to the participants who attend all the meetings.  “Weight Watchers is providing us with the tools we need to get healthy and combined with the support system we have built, our employees are highly motivated,” says Scribner. “We are in the business of health care and want our employees to be healthy. Our employees are smiling and they look great.”

“Many companies realize that obesity is a major issue that must be confronted,” said Chris Corcoran, Weight Watchers director of customer marketing in New York.  “This is not a cosmetic problem or a nice wellness benefit.  This is a serious dollars-and-cents issue.  Corporations are spending a lot of money on health insurance.  In fact, the only thing they are spending more money on is salaries.”
