PALESTINE —
Evacuees may bring their pets to BARC, The Humane Society in Palestine, located at 335 Armory Rd. All owners will be required to have a valid Texas driver's license.
Pets will be housed on a first-come basis. Small cats and dogs will be housed in the new shelter facility, space is limited to 20. The old facility will be used to house large dogs only, as the Humane Society has space for about 20 in this site, according to BARC, The Humane Society official Brenda Beazley.
Owners must provide proof of vaccinations, including rabies. If the owners can not provide proof of vaccination the Humane Society will provide vaccinations other than rabies for a reduced cost. If a rabies vaccination is required, the Humane Society will issue a $ 5 pre-paid voucher for the owner to transport the pet to a local veterinarian for rabies vaccination.
All animals must be clean and free of fleas, if a bath or dip is required the owner will need to bathe and dip the pet for a minimal $3 fee.
All food must be provided by the owners in addition to feeding and care.
“We will provide water and shelter at no cost,” Beazley said.
For further information, call the animal shelter at 903-729-8074. In case of an emergency, call the Palestine Police Department for Animal Control Assistance.
