A 45-year-old Palestine man has been indicted in a Tyler federal court for allegedly being a felon in possession of a firearm.
On Wednesday, the U.S. attorney’s office in Tyler announced that Theodis Lynn Barrett, 45, of Palestine had been federally indicted on the charge in the Eastern District of Texas.
On May 14, Palestine police were advised that Barrett had threatened two men with a firearm. Upon their arrival, authorities say they found the charged man in a car containing a shotgun.
After determining he was a convicted felon, Barrett was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
If convicted, Barrett faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
The Palestine Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the case, while Gregg Marchessault, assistant U.S. attorney, is the prosecutor.
Other persons recently federally indicted in the Eastern District of Texas and their charges included:
• David Perez-Julian, 45, of Smith County (criminal alien unlawfully present in the U.S. after deportation)
• David Lee Green, 63, of Tyler (felon in possession of a firearm)
• Derek Chad Maddox, 26, of Tyler (possession with intent to distribute or dispense a controlled substance and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime)
• Larry Pugh, 33, of Jacksonville (tampering with a witness).
