Relief supplies shipped to local church

PALESTINE —
Local families needing assistance in the wake of Hurricane Ike may find some relief with the Court Drive Church of Christ.
The church, located at 1434 Court Dr., received a semi tractor-trailer full of relief supplies shipped from Nashville by Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Inc. The shipment included $112,000 worth of food, water, bedding, clothing, personal supplies, household and cleaning supplies, according to church officials.
Family food boxes include dry and canned goods such as pasta, crackers, oil, instant potatoes, beef stew, chili, dry milk, navy beans, dry beans, trash bags, coffee, sloppy joe mix, paper towels, meals ready to eat (MREs), toothbrushes and paste, napkins, cups, grits, bath tissue, jelly, tuna helper, vienna sausages, peaches and other fruit, cereal bars, mixed vegetables, peanut butter, sugar, plates, drink mix, pinto beans, rice, tuna, a can opener, dinner ware, soap, razors, combs and a Bible and note paper.
Other items include boxes of detergent, bleach, personal care items for adults, children and babies, cases of water and buckets filled with household cleaning supplies.
The items will be distributed to various churches around the community as well as to individuals in need, including those housing friends and family who evacuated from the coast in advance of Hurricane Ike.
