A local minister has been asked to offer a daily Bible commentary for the Gospel Broadcasting Network’s new television program called “Good News Today.”
The GBN network, on Dish Network and DirecTV satellite, recently asked local minister Dan Manuel of Crockett Road Church of Christ to offer a daily two-minute Bible commentary thought for the day titled “Something to Think About.”
Manuel has been involved in the television ministry for 18 years. He has served as producer, director and host for the “Give Me the Bible” television program that airs at 7 a.m. each Sunday on NBC 56. The program also airs over several syndicated networks around the country. The program is a regular feature of GBN and is presented each week over that network at noon on Sundays Central Standard Time out of Atlanta, GA. The program is an international telecast, as well, and airs in the Canadian provinces and South America.
“I look forward to working with the national network in producing the two-minute segments each day,” Manuel said. “We have already been taping the segments at the NBC affiliate in Tyler.”
The television program is sponsored by Churches of Christ and makes no appeal to viewers for funds to underwrite the program.
“We do not ask those who watch the program for money and this is most unusual, due to the fact that many of the televangelists have for years appealed to viewers for additional money to stay on the air,” Manuel said.
Dish Network will air GBN’s “Good News Today” daily program on Channel 9407 at 11 a.m. CST. DirecTV will air GBN’s “Good News Today” daily program on Channel 323 at 7 a.m. CST.
Manuel also has recently started offering Biblical comments and a “Thought for the Day” at 7 a.m. each Monday on local radio station KBHT 93.5 FM.
“We are thrilled at the opportunities provided by the Lord,” Manuel said.
Manuel also recently was chosen by teachers and peers of the Alumni Association at Hallsville High School as the recipient of the Outstanding Distinguished Alumni Award for 2007. A banquet will be held in his honor Friday prior to the homecoming game between Hallsville and Nacogdoches. He will be recognized at that time and officially presented the award and plaque on the football field at the game.
“I feel tremendously humbled and honored by those who have chosen me for this award,” Manuel said. “I graduated from Hallsville High School in the Class of 1965 and I am deeply grateful for the kindness and thoughtfulness of the present administration and faculty, as well as the alumni association.”
In addition, Manuel will sing and provide entertainment for the banquet Friday, and will sing the National Anthem with the Hallsville High School band prior to the beginning of the football game.
“I went to school with the high school band director Sherry Morgan, so this is a nice treat,” Manuel said.
Manuel’s photograph will be placed in the Hallsville High School Hall of Fame along with others who have received such awards.
