Sheriff’s office seeking suspect

Anderson County sheriff’s authorities are seeking a suspect who eluded officers early Friday afternoon following a pursuit in the extreme southern part of the county.

Around 12:30 p.m. Friday, Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor said his agency was dispatched “to assist a game warden from Houston County (Eddie Lehr) who was pursuing a four-wheeler” on CR 100 which travels through both Anderson and Houston counties.

“(Sheriff’s) Sgt. (Brian) Chason and (deputy) John Wright were in the area trying to serve a warrant,” Taylor said. “Sgt. Chason observed a male on a blue motorcycle turn down a road (off of CR 100). 

“Sgt. Chason attempted to stop him and the motorcycle sped off and fled,” the sheriff continued, saying the driver turned off the road on to a “pig trail” a short time later. 

Once on the trail, “The driver dumped the motorcycle, fled on foot and was able to elude the officers,” Taylor stated. 

The sheriff said officers searched for the subject for roughly an hour. 

The motorcycle was a Kawasaki Ninja valued at $3,300 which had been reported stolen Wednesday from a residence on CR 179, according to the sheriff. 

The four-wheeler was located in the same general area as the motorcycle, Taylor stated. As of late Friday afternoon, authorities were attempting to determine ownership of the four-wheeler, he added. 

Authorities believe the four-wheeler is also possibly stolen, the sheriff said.

Taylor described the four-wheeler as an “older, Yamaha, multi-colored, patchwork” model. 

“It’s got some spray paint on it — different colors,” Taylor said.

The sheriff said the suspect is a white male in his 20s whom authorities believe “frequents” the area of the pursuit.

“The driver of the vehicle is someone we believe to be a wanted subject,” Taylor said. “There were some witnesses (to the pursuit) in the area.” 

Anyone providing information leading to the arrest of the suspect in Friday’s pursuit could receive a reward of up to $1,000 from Anderson County Crimestoppers.
