WonderFall Oktoberfest slated Saturday

PALESTINE — With sunshine in the forecast, organizers of the WonderFall OktoberFest are forecasting fun for Saturday.

Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kathy Masonheimer said things have gotten a bit bigger for this year’s festival as they have had to close part of Queen Street.

Main Street in downtown also will be a hotbed of activity as there will be dance performances held on the historic street throughout the day Saturday.

To go with the downtown vendors and live entertainment, Old Town with Sawdust Stage in the Hollow will be having live entertainment along with the Biergarten.

At the Kidzone, Masonheimer said there will be 50 new vendors this year.

“We want everybody to come out,” Masonheimer said. “The weather is supposed to be beautiful and we want them to come and have a beautiful time (at the festival.)”

The fun will begin with the parade at 10 a.m. The parade will begin at the Anderson County Courthouse square and travel down Avenue A to Main Street, then take a right on Tennessee Street followed by a right at Lacy Street and then disband at the Anderson County Courthouse Annex parking lot.

Those wishing to go to the Old Town and downtown events will be charged a $1 entrance fee.

Entertainment this year will have something new, too, Masonheimer said.

“On the family stage we’ll have Janis Joplin, Loretta Lynn and the Blues Brothers performing,” Masonheimer said, referring to tribute artists. “That’s a new thing for us this year.”

This also marks the final weekend for the presentation of the Palestine Community Theatre’s performance of Agatha Christie’s mystery “The Mousetrap.”

Also, at the Federal Building, located at 101 E. Oak St. the annual 4-H Project Show, featuring youth projects of cooking, wood working, sewing, art and photography will be open to the public from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church also will be holding its second annual Fall Festival Saturday inside the church’s activity building located at 503 N. Queen St.
