PALESTINE —
Angel Food Ministries is encouraging people to think about others this holiday season with a special Thanksgiving holiday food box.
“We are encouraging people to consider Angel Food during the holidays,” said Harold Pettit, director of Basics of Life Storehouse in Palestine. “Companies can give holiday food boxes to their employees instead of buying a turkey for them. The holiday food box provides a complete Thanksgiving meal and can feed six to eight people.”
Cost of the Thanksgiving box is $36.
The last day to order the holiday food box and other food packages is Thursday.
“We’re making changes that are going to make a difference,” Pettit said. “We started the online ordering so people can place their orders online (angelfoodministries.com).”
“We’ve also reduced the price of the allergen-free food box,” he continued.
In addition, people now can purchase any box of food without having to buy the regular monthly food package as required in the past.
“Angel Food provides fresh, brand name food for a fraction of the retail price,” Pettit said. “By purchasing food in bulk, directly from some of the top suppliers in the country, food is discounted by up to 50 percent of retail.
“The quality of the food is good. It keeps getting better and better.”
A standard medium-size box of food may be purchased for $31 and contains food staples from every food group, including chicken or beef, milk, eggs, vegetables and fruit. Each regular box of food feeds a family of four for about a week, or a single person for almost a month, according to Pettit.
The menu selections vary monthly and consist of both fresh and frozen items.
Angel Food Ministries, which operates in 35 states across the nation, provides monthly packages of food at a savings to everyone, regardless of income status.
Cost of the monthly Signature box is $31. Other food boxes include the senior and convenience meals box; the allergen-free box; assorted meat grill box; assorted meat and chicken combo; 10-pound boneless/skinless chicken breast box; and the fresh fruit and veggie box.
Food orders may be placed from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. until noon Thursday. There are no limits to the quantity of boxes per individual. Call 903-731-9270 to place orders by phone and use either credit or debit cards only.
Food pickup day is from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21 at First Baptist Church, 5700 N. Loop 256 (next door to the Palestine YMCA).
