PALESTINE — A worker sustained fatal injuries Tuesday after falling from the roof of a Sanderson Farms building, the up-and-coming poultry hatchery and processing plant near Palestine.
The $17 million, 65,000 square foot facility is being constructed on 10 acres in the Willow Creek Business Park on the South Loop in Palestine.
Palestine Fire Chief Alan Wilcher said the case is still under investigation, though it appears it was an industrial accident. Details of the man's identity and age cannot be released until families have been notified.
“We got the call around 10 a.m.,” Wilcher said. “The man that fell off didn't live — just from the fall.”
Wilcher said the man sustained “injuries incompatible with life” and that more information would be released in the near future.
