The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3907 will host a Thanksgiving dinner Thursday for veterans and their families as well as emergency responders.
“This is something that we have done every year. We are a veteran-oriented organization and we are here to help the veterans in the community. That's what we do,” VFW Ladies Auxiliary Treasurer Brenda Folsom told the Herald-Press “We try to give back to the community through events like this.”
The Thanksgiving dinner, which will include turkey, ham, dressing and other Thanksgiving staples, will be served from 4 to 6 p.m.
Members of the police department, fire department, emergency medical service employees and other first responders in the community are invited to attend as well.
“This also is for those that can get to the VFW Post from the local nursing homes,” Folsom said. “We would love to see everyone there.”
A team of about 10 to 12 volunteers from the VFW 3907 and its Ladies Auxiliary will be preparing and serving the meal.
“We are open every day and we want the veterans to know they have a place to come where they can feel wanted — that's what we are all about,” Folsom said. “We encourage everyone to come show support for the veterans.”
The VFW Post is located at 3800 W. Oak St. in Westwood. For more information, call the post at 903-723-8120. An RSVP is not necessary to attend the meal.
