Cartmell Home for Aged will be hosting its annual resident fishing event and hamburger fundraiser next week.
Cartmell residents will fish on Wednesday and Thursday. A 3,500-gallon tank stocked with several hundred pounds of catfish for residents to catch will be set up on the nursing home’s front lawn. For many residents, it’s been years since they’ve had the opportunity to fish except for during this annual event.
A hamburger fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday to help pay for the event. For only $5, receive a hamburger with all the fixings, chips, cookie and soft drink.
A drive-thru pickup will be set up at Cartmell Home and phone in orders are highly encouraged.
“Once again, thanks to the community support, we are happy to bring ‘Fishing at Cartmell’ to our residents. Those that have participated in the past are sharing their fish tales with the first-timers and everyone is really looking forward to wetting a hook. I guess some people just love to fish, no matter their age or size of the pond,” Cartmell Home CEO Tim Kozik said. “We do give a prize for the most fish caught and for some, competition creates the most excitement. One resident was known to ask for an umbrella when it started to rain. Now that is a true fisherman.”
