PALESTINE — An 83-year-old Palestine veteran is looking for his missing dog, a very special pet that did tours in Afghanistan as a bomb-sniffing dog and also has worked as a drug search dog with police departments in the past.

Veteran John Gean's large black Labrador Spaz was last seen on Sunday at his residence in the 4000 block of FM 315, near Landmark School and Northside Primary School off of Texas 155 North.

The dog was wearing a grayish collar with a veterinarian tag that has an Athen's veterinarian number.

“He is very friendly and he is this man's best friend and family,” a person familiar with the situation told the Herald-Press. “The dog is a military vet hero. We are just sad for this man and just want to get his baby back to him.”

If the dog is located, please call the Palestine Police Department dispatch at 903-729-2254.
