Paint Palestine Pink Walk/Run registration events announced

PALESTINE — Paint Palestine Pink, a local non-profit organization providing mammograms and diagnostic services for the men and women of Anderson and surrounding counties, has begun taking registrations for its 3rd Annual Walk/Run for Breast Cancer on Saturday, Oct. 12. 

Paint Palestine Pink’s purpose is to promote awareness of breast cancer and provide the tools for early detection. It has funded more than 600 diagnostic tests including mammograms, biopsies, ultrasounds and pathologies since 2010.

Registration events will take place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week.

Registration will be held at the following locations:

• Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Baby J’s BBQ (located at U.S. 287/Texas 19 South at FM 2419)

• Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.  at Walmart (2223 S. Loop 256)

• Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Old Magnolia Sandwich Shoppe (120 W. Oak St.)

 The Registration fee is $25. Participants over the age of 12 must register and only registered participants 12 or older will receive T-shirts. Any participant under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Every participant who registers at these events will receive a free pair of pink ribbon flip-flops.

The 1.5 mile walk and the 10.5 mile walk/runs will start and finish at Texas Oncology, 3415 S. Loop 256 in Palestine. Volunteers are needed for start and finish duties as well as rest stops along the route.

Cheering groups such as church groups, 4-H, cheer or dance clubs are also welcome to participate. Volunteers may contact Walk Coordinator Carolyn Miles at 903-729-6975. Car and truck clubs and motorcycle groups are encouraged to call.

Updates on future registration events and a kick-off party also will be announced in the Palestine Herald-Press and on the Paint Palestine Pink Facebook page.
