Our Town: Old Cayuga 4-H to hold petting zoo fundraiser

PALESTINE — Old Cayuga 4-H will hold a petting zoo fund-raiser on Saturday, offering to take pictures of children with the animals.

The petting zoo will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Tractor Supply Company parking lot on Old Elkhart Road.

Animals will include a pig, calf, goat, rabbits, pony and horse. Kids can take pictures with the animals for $5 for a 4x6 photo or $10 for an 8x10 photo.

“We also are holding a membership drive for any kids in third grade and up who want to join 4-H,” Old Cayuga 4-H leader Tonya Ray said.

Elkhart All-school reunion set Sept. 21

Elkhart High School graduates of all ages are invited to attend the EHS All-Class Reunion on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The event will be held at 5 p.m. in the new EHS cafetorium as part of the Homecoming Saturday festivities. Those planning to attend are encouraged to spread the word to see which class can get the most classmates to attend.

Cost is $12 per person at the door to benefit the Elkhart Lion Scholarship Fund. Dinner will be provided. Bring a dessert if you would like to share your favorite recipe. RSVP online at

Brown Hamlett reunion planned

The Brown Hamlett Reunion will kick off at 6 p.m. today with a fish fry.

The reunion will continue at 1 p.m. Saturday at Foster Community Center with a host of activities planned through 5 p.m. At 6 p.m., a live band will entertain.

PHS 1953 reunion set

The Palestine High School Class of 1953 will be celebrating its 60th reunion on Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28.

The plans include a “Meet and Greet” gathering on Friday evening, Sept. 27 at the Hampton Inn. Saturday’s plans include a breakfast at 9 a.m. followed by tours of the newly renovated high school building, the Texas Theater and other familiar locations of the past. The reunion will be concluded on Saturday evening with dinner and dancing at the Harvey Women’s Club.
