Elkhart Independent School District officials have announced that Elkhart Elementary School Principal Tana Herring will serve as 2013-14 District 7 President for the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA).
New officers from the 20 TEPSA districts across the state were installed at the association’s July Leadership Conference.
“Professional engagement is the hallmark of an instructional leader and we look forward to Tana’s contributions to the association during the upcoming year,” TEPSA Executive Director Sandi Borden said. “District officers provide a vital connection to the 5,800 local district members who direct the activities of more than 2.5 million PreK-8 school children.”
Since its establishment in 1917, TEPSA has encouraged educational leaders to learn with and from each other as they meet the needs of their communities. Herring has consistently met that standard throughout her for 27 years of exceptional service as a classroom teacher and campus administrator.
“This award comes as no surprise and echoes the sentiments of local supporters who recently voted Mrs. Herring the 2013 Herald-Press Reader’s Choice for Best Principal of Anderson County,” Elkhart ISD Superintendent Dr. Ray DeSpain said. “She does a great job for our district. The students and teachers love her energy and enthusiasm.
“She’s such a good sport, she let the kids tape her to the gym wall as a reward for good academic results,” he added. “It’s no wonder they consider her a superstar.
“TEPSA will definitely benefit from Tana’s professionalism and dedication. EISD is proud to have her leading our elementary campus.”
