The Texas State Railroad is offering special rates at its parks and campgrounds during the month of January.
Reservations are 50 percent off for camping, pavilion and dining hall rentals. Reservations can be for any date in 2013, and for facilities in either Rusk or Palestine, but they must be made during the month of January in order to get the discount.
Nestled in the piney woods of East Texas, TSRR’s two parks and campgrounds offer the unique opportunity for individuals, families and groups to stay on-site at a historic railroad.
The TSRR parks and campgrounds offer an ideal spot for group gatherings of all kinds. This makes for an affordable weekend getaway, vacation, reunion, birthday party or rally.
The campgrounds at the Rusk Depot, often described as the prettiest campground in Texas, include 71 camping sites in a wooded area — 32 are full hook-up, the rest are tent sites. Each has electrical hook-up, water, fire ring, grill and a picnic table.
Additional amenities include a 15-acre fishing lake, Spray Ground water playground, tennis courts, basketball goals, horseshoes, shuffle board, volleyball, a 1/4 mile nature trail, a swing set, slide, monkey bars, laundry facility, restrooms and showers.
There is also an open-air, gazebo style pavilion adjacent to Cherokee Lake, plus a screened in dining hall with a full-service kitchen and restrooms that accommodates seating for approximately 75 people.
The Palestine facilities include a park and campground, two pavilions, a 1/2 mile nature trail, picnic tables, playground, pond and restroom facilities.
All camping in Palestine is primitive tent camping. Running water is available but there are no electrical hookups.
